about the cats...
Thanks for watching the felines while we are gone...
Jack (the orange tabby type) likes to be picked up and likes to pick on:
Ta-kun (the black one)-does not like to be picked up at all!!
Jack will spend every moment that he is not eating or sleeping picking on Ta-kun.
When you hear her growl, feel free to shoo Jack away, or liberally spray with the water bottle, just next to this note. It's just water, but we've often wondered how battery acid might work.
Jack can spend the days outdoors, but needs to come in before sunset. Using the
‘treat’ bag and or a jangling of keys will generally lure him in. He’s easy, and can even stay outside while your gone. Do give him a treat if he comes when ‘summoned’. If he fails to come in, then you will be responsible to explain to Mavis about his becoming the new friend of the coyotes across the street in the park.
Ta-kun can be let outside only if you’re about, and is so terrified of the world that
basically walking towards her will get her to scramble into the apartment. She is that fussiest of eaters and will take NO treats. The poor dear was completely 'declawed' and the shelter only informed us of this as we were taking her away.
Jack loves to bring in half dead lizards. We give him treats and praise then try to distract him during disposal. He will probably respond to your praise with a bite to your person. Ta-kun tries to 'help' Jack, but this leads to another attack. We don't really want to know how the lizards feel.
Ta-kun loves to spend hours looking out any window with a perch. There is one in Mavis’ room, and a table in the living room, with yet another blanket to add to all the other 'cat areas' covered in blankets all over the house.
Jack can spend endless hours pushing out all of the cat litter onto the floor in the most obsessive manner. We don't know why. If you enjot the sounds of waves crashing into the surf, this just might replicate that, if you could squint with you ears...
The cat boxes need cleaning out twice a day, once in the AM and once in the PM. We are very environmentally hostile and use only the finest plastic bags to dispose of waste, which can be tossed in the environmentally friendly paper bags in the corner
cabinet, to the right of the sink labeled ‘bags’. Then to the trash! If not cleaned, Ta-kun will simply take a dump next to the box in some feeble protest.
Jack will eat any and all cat foods given him, and will act as if he has been starved every time. Any wet food will do (about a teaspoon in the morning) and that is either in the ‘fridge, or in the tall kitchen cabinet labeled ‘cat stuff here’ or somesuch. Treats and dry food are also to be found there. There is also a tempting sack filled with rocks.
We’ve left spoons and bowls for the feedings here with the note. Any jangling of plates will bring Jack about. If not fed soon thereafter, there he goes after the hapless Ta-kun. Just rinse them out when Jack has finished noisily devouring. Please make sure the dry food and water bowls have an ample supply, or again, the hapless victim.
We do hope you enjoy watching and being nipped at by the cats when you try to pick up the wrong one. They do both love to play with the ‘teasers’ however, and that should give you both minutes of pleasure. Then the attacks begin in earnest.
The vet’s number is on the fridge; our numbers are there as well. You may never call us back after this...
Whew! Thanks again.
